Our History

1970

Began soup run, opened first house in Kensington and Chelsea. Became incorporated as a company and registered charity, opened first office. By the end of the 70s, Cyrenians had opened 4 houses and moved its registered office to larger premises in Kensington and Chelsea.

1980

Opened a masionette for people recovering from alcohol related problems. Opened a large scheme for young people in Kensington and Chelsea replacing the much smaller one that opened in the 70s. Moved from volunteer workers to a full complement of paid staff. Policy and procedure review and implemented and registered care homes formally registered.

1990

First Director takes up appointment. Opened a house for young carers in Kensington and Chelsea. Opened a women only house, with women only staff. Sunday activities club opens. Second director takes up appointment. Open projects for people with mental health problems in Hounslow, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea.  Opened a project for rough sleepers with mental health problems.

2000

Project opened for rough sleepers with complex needs. Community mental health support service begins in Hammersmith and Fulham. An open afternoon is held in the roof top garden in Kensington to showcase all Cyrenians projects. Change of Cyrenians logo. Supporting people now funding services. Recovery model and customer involvement was introduced

2010

500 Customers - who play an active part in helping to shape the services they receive from Cyrenians. We encourage feedback from a variety of different mechanisms including house meetings, the annual customer conference, satisfaction surveys, exit interviews, monitoring use of the complaints procedure, participating in focus groups and by linking in directly to the Management Committee. 200 Staff – who are our greatest asset and resource. We recruit experienced people from diverse backgrounds, who work in an assertive yet empowering way with some of the most challenging people in our communities. Cyrenians would be unable to operate successfully without such a skilled and able staff team who have access to a comprehensive training programme to meet ongoing requirements.
